Absenteeism rate calculator
Absenteeism rate is unplanned absence days divided by scheduled working days, times 100. A team of 30 over 21 working days had 630 days to work. Lose 42 of them to sickness and no-shows and the rate is 6.67%, or 1.4 days per person.

How to use it
Step 1
Add up unplanned absence across the team: sick days, no-shows and days off nobody approved. Leave booked in advance and company holidays stay out.
Step 2
Enter the headcount and the working days in the period for one person. The calculator multiplies them to get the days your team was due to work.
Step 3
Read the rate beside the days lost per person. Days per person is often the easier figure to raise with a team lead.
Questions people ask
Does approved leave count as absenteeism?
No. Absenteeism measures absence nobody planned for. Approved leave was booked and covered ahead of time, so counting it would penalise people for using their allowance. Count sickness, no-shows and unapproved days only.
Should half days and late arrivals count?
Count a half day as 0.5. Lateness is a separate measure: someone 20 minutes late still worked the day, so track it as late minutes or an on-time rate. The late-minutes and on-time rate calculators on this site handle that side.
How does PeopleMuster track attendance and leave?
PeopleMuster records attendance from a fingerprint terminal or browser check-in, with on-time rate, late minutes and punch corrections. Leave runs as quota-based requests with approvals, in the same system. So a planned day off and an unplanned one never get mixed up. It's $3 per person per month, every module included.
