How do I switch to PeopleMuster from spreadsheets?
Moving HR off spreadsheets and into PeopleMuster starts with the sheets you already keep: a staff list, a leave tracker and a project list. The CSV importer reads each one, or we load them with you during setup. Balances, approvals and the capacity plan then update themselves, for $3 per person per month.
Your spreadsheets break in quiet ways. Two people keep two copies of the leave tracker, a formula drifts, and nobody can say who changed a balance last March.
Each of your tabs has a home in PeopleMuster. Your staff list becomes the directory and the org chart. Your leave tracker becomes leave types, quotas and requests. Your project sheet becomes projects, clients and timesheets. A device list becomes the asset register.
Tidy the sheets before you upload them. Use one row per person, one column per field, and the same spelling of each department everywhere. Clean sheets load cleanly the first time.
Load leave balances as of one date. Pick the first day of a month, read each person's remaining days from the tracker, and that's the starting balance in the quota grid.
After the move, you stop doing the arithmetic. A person requests leave, a manager approves it, and the used and remaining days update on their own. Timesheets go through the same approval step, inside a logging window you set.
Access stops being all or nothing. A shared sheet lets anyone with your link see everything. PeopleMuster gives you five roles and 64 permissions, plus custom roles, so each person sees what their role allows.
Every edit is on record. Your activity log keeps each change with its before and after values, and who made it.
You still get spreadsheets out when you want them. Attendance, leave, the directory, the org chart and the device register export to CSV, filtered the way the screen is.
Related questions
Can I upload my leave tracker spreadsheet?
Yes. Save it as CSV with one row per person and their balance for each leave type, and the importer loads it into the quota grid.
Which spreadsheets should I move first?
Start with your staff list, because leave, timesheets and the org chart all hang off it. Then move leave balances, then projects.
Will I lose the ability to work in Excel?
You keep it for reporting. Attendance, leave, the directory, the org chart and devices all export to CSV from their own screens.
