How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25, thirty is 0.5, and forty-five is 0.75. Add that to the whole hours, so 8 hours 15 minutes is 8.25.
Why is 7:30 not 7.3 hours?
Because a clock counts in sixties and a decimal counts in hundreds. Thirty minutes is half an hour, 0.5, so 7:30 is 7.5 hours. Writing 7.30 pays for 7 hours and 18 minutes, which is 12 minutes short.
