Who approves a punch correction?
Whoever holds the attendance approval permission approves a punch correction — in most companies a line manager or somebody in HR. The right comes from a role rather than a job title, and roles are built from a list of sixty-four discrete permissions that an administrator assigns and can change.
Tying approval to a title breaks the first time an organisation has two kinds of manager. Tying it to a permission does not.
Five roles ship as a starting point, and custom roles can be created beside them. An administrator decides which of the sixty-four permissions each one carries, so approval can sit with team leads at one company and with HR alone at another.
That flexibility has a cost worth naming. A right handed out casually is hard to spot later. The person who handed it out rarely recalls doing so.
Changes take effect at the next sign-in, not at once. That catches people out. Somebody is told the access is granted, tries it, and sees nothing. A sign-out and back in fixes it.
The split between asking and agreeing is the part that matters most. Where one person does both, the check is for show. Nothing later has an outside view of the change. Keeping the two in separate hands costs almost nothing and is worth doing early.
Spread the right across more than one role as well. A queue behind a single reviewer stalls the week that reviewer takes leave. Two roles holding it removes that.
Access rules are enforced in the database, not only on the screen, so an approval right is more than a visible button. Every change to a role is written to the activity log with its old and new value.
Check who currently holds the approval permission before assuming it is your manager. The roles screen shows member counts against each role and how many of the sixty-four each one carries.

Can approval sit with more than one person?
Yes. Any number of roles can carry the permission, and any number of people can hold each role. Spreading it prevents a queue stalling behind one person's holiday.
Can I approve my own request?
Only where somebody granted you the permission, which defeats the purpose. Keep requesting and approving in different hands.
Is an applied correction recorded?
Yes. The corrected record keeps its before and after values in the activity log, with the person who applied it and the time.
