Where does the value of my benefit come from?
The value of a benefit comes from the company's benefits policy and its pay process. PeopleMuster holds the structure around it: which benefits the company offers, whether each is a deduction or a reimbursement, whether it is included in the payroll export, and who is enrolled in which, month by month.
Two different things get called a benefit, and keeping them apart saves arguments.
One is the terms: how much, how often, on what conditions. Those live in the company's policies, under compensation and benefits in the policy library.
The other is the structure: which benefits exist and who is on them. That lives in the catalogue and the enrolment matrix, and it is what HR updates when somebody joins or changes cover.
Each benefit record carries a name, a description, an active state, a type of deduction or reimbursement, and a flag for inclusion in the payroll export. Together they tell whoever prepares pay what to do with it.
The enrolment matrix reads by month, so the record for February stays true even after somebody joins the medical cover in March.
Pay runs stay with your accountant or payroll provider. They read the type and the export flag off the benefit record before they touch a figure, so the record is the one place both sides agree on.
A question about a specific figure is best asked through the support desk. Benefits and Payroll are both standing categories, so it reaches the person who handles it.
