Can I request new equipment?

Equipment requests go through the internal support desk. It has an IT and Equipment category for this. Each request becomes a numbered ticket with a category, an assignee and a status. The person who asked can follow it from start to finish.

A request needs a route that survives the person who received it going on holiday. A corridor conversation does not.

So the desk gives each request a number, a category and somebody it belongs to. The requester can see where it stands rather than asking again.

The form takes a category, a subject and the detail, plus attachments up to five files at ten megabytes each. A photograph of a failing screen or a cracked hinge usually settles a question faster than a paragraph describing it.

What makes the request stronger is checking the register first. Availability is a field, and so is the count of machines available now.

The specification filters help here in a way most asset tools do not. You can filter the register by processor, memory, storage, screen size and generation. So a request for more memory gets checked against spare machines first.

A request answered from stock is faster than one answered by buying. The register is what makes the difference visible before anybody asks.

Once a new machine arrives, it goes into the register with its serial, specification and holder, so the request ends in a record.

Categories are managed rather than fixed. A company can rename IT and Equipment or split it in two, so each request routes to whoever handles that kind of kit.

Say what the machine has to do rather than naming a model. A ticket reading "builds take twenty minutes and the fan runs constantly" gets a better answer than one asking for a specific laptop.

Can I see what is available before I ask?

Where your role carries the device permissions, yes. The register shows availability and filters by specification, so a match can often be found without a purchase.

Who handles an equipment ticket?

Whoever the queue assigns it to. The inbox shows a requester, a category, an assignee and a status for each ticket, and statuses such as On Deck appear there.

Can I attach a photo to the request?

Yes, up to five files at ten megabytes each. A photo of a cracked hinge usually settles the question fast.
