What happens if I do not submit a timesheet?
An unsubmitted timesheet never reaches the approvals queue. Hours entered but left in draft still sit in the sheet, and the status makes the difference visible: a draft has not been handed to anybody. Every report grouped by sheet status shows the gap rather than absorbing it.
Entering hours and submitting them are two separate acts, and people routinely do the first while believing they did the second.
That is the failure this status catches. Without it, a full week of accurate entries and a week nobody handed over look identical to a reviewer who is not looking for it.
The reporting consequence follows. A breakdown by sheet status is the view that shows how much of a period's hours have actually been through anybody's hands.
For somebody planning capacity, that difference is the whole point. Unreviewed hours are a claim. Reviewed hours are an agreement.
The cost lands on other people rather than on you. A department total reads low. A week looks quieter than it was. Somebody sizing next month's work uses both, and neither carries a warning that a week is still sitting in draft.
That is why the state is worth glancing at on a Friday. It takes seconds, and the alternative is a figure somebody presents on Monday with a hole in it.
Make it part of finishing the week. The act is small, and nothing downstream works properly without it.
A partial week can still be handed over. Whether an incomplete one is accepted is a call for the person reading it, and most will take it over nothing.
Nothing will chase you unless somebody set up a prompt. A weekly nudge for hours can be scheduled and posted to Slack, which is where several standing reminders already live in practice.
Beyond that, the only thing watching is the grid. An empty cell in a row of full ones is easy to spot, and that is what a manager scans on a Monday.
A company that does not run approvals at all has a different shape of problem. The status still moves, but nothing downstream depends on it, so the queue becomes a formality.
Make submission part of ending the week rather than a separate task. A scheduled Slack reminder is the usual prompt, and the weekly hours-submission one already exists as a pattern.
Related questions
Do draft hours count towards utilisation?
The reports break hours down by sheet status, so whether unreviewed time is included depends on which view somebody is reading. Check the breakdown before quoting a figure.
Will somebody chase me?
Only where a reminder is configured or a manager watches the grid. Nothing chases automatically beyond the scheduled Slack notifications a team sets up.
Can I submit a partial week?
A sheet can be submitted with whatever it holds. Whether an incomplete week is accepted is a decision for the person reviewing it.
